How long have you practiced Yoga? How often per week? I started about 6 years ago, however have not been consistent. I make it a point to do it at least once a week in a structured class but I find I do the moves and breathing quite often. It has almost become second nature.

What made you decide to practice Yoga? There was an advertised class at the community college and my girlfriend and I decided to take it. The regular teacher was unable to make the first class so this young guy taught. I was hooked. He was so calm and the way about him made you get lost in his words. The one thing that was most vivid wasn’t any movement but he had us hold energy between our hands. It was the strangest and most empowered feeling I had ever felt.

What do you like about practicing Yoga at the National Harbor? I love National Harbor but most of all, Cathy is the best. She gives you options and pushes you. Her flexibility and commitment is amazing. While the environment at National Harbor can be a bit loud at times the sunsets are beautiful. Once we get started I don’t think I really notice. And the convenience of food afterward is perfect.

What is your favorite Yoga pose and why is it your favorite? My favorite pose is the Tree pose. It uses all of your energy to remain still. It makes you focus on breathing, core, and calm. Yet you must remain strong and grounded. And just like a tree I feel strength, stability, and grace all at once.

Describe how Yoga has enhanced or changed your life. I have lower back issues and I can say that as long as I practice, the pain is minimized. I like the increased flexibility and also some of the strength I’ve developed. It keeps me balanced.
