Yoga with Cathy Valentine is coming to MGM’s grand outdoor promenade deck overlooking the Potomac!!!! MGM is continuing Cathy’s philosophy of spreading the mental, spiritual and physical joy of Yoga FREE to the DMV community. The Yoga sessions will feature live music with DJ Evan and Kaleo on drums. 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program

Yoga is a fluid exploration of the self through movement, meditation and attention to breath. Life’s about making connections and the study of Yoga is a way, a path, a journey of connecting – first to the self and, ultimately, through gained wisdom and insight, to the world around us. Whether you are interested in becoming a Yoga teacher or just wish to enhance your knowledge of the Yogic path, Cathy Valentine Yoga 200 Hour Teacher Training program will be for you!

The program is led by Cathy Valentine who is a 200 hour certified Yogi with over 15 years of teaching experience. Her style has often been referred to as a mix of skill and spirit as each of her classes combines the physical challenge of Yoga asanas with a spiritual undertone, creating what has been referred to as an “alluring” experience. Her love of Eastern philosophy, spirituality and understanding of anatomy are all weaved skillfully into her teachings. By combining these skills with the ancient teachings of Yoga, Cathy’s goal is to encourage her students to find insight and answers to life’s deeper questions, creating transformation and liberation.

This 200 hour Hatha Vinyasa Teacher Training program is certified by Yoga Alliance (RYS 200). It is a complete and progressive learning experience that deepens student’s knowledge and builds a solid foundation for a working Yoga teacher in each of the following fields of study:

~ anatomy & philosophy
~ asanas & sequencing
~ teaching methodology
~ pranayama & meditation
~ energetics
~ history & philosophy
~ Sanskrit terminology
~ ethics & business of Yoga

In this training, you will learn to artfully create a class sequence and teach asanas skillfully. You will be prepared to develop safe and sensible yoga classes for all levels of competency. You will learn to accurately observe students’ bodies and assist them into optimally aligned asanas through the use of words, basic hands-on adjustments, modifications and use of props.

This training may be taken to deepen your own knowledge of Yoga, with or without the intention of ever teaching. Either way, the training and practice schedule requires students to fully immerse themselves in Yoga. Sincere interest and the willingness to study intensely are needed. It is recommended that you have a regular Yoga practice of at least one year prior to this training.

The course tuition is $3,200 which includes a $300 non-refundable deposit to reserve your spot. The non-refundable deposit must be received no later than February 28, 2018, with the remaining balance due by March 2, 2018.

Option 1 – $2700 paid in full, available between January 19 – February 1, 2018 ($300 of which is the non-refundable deposit)
Option 2 – $2900 paid in full, available between February 2 – February 28, 2018 ($300 of which is the non-refundable deposit)
Full tuition of $3,200 payable as follows: $300 non-refundable deposit due on February 28, 2018, followed by five equal monthly payments of $580 due on March 2, April 6, May 4, June 1, and July 6, 2018.

How long have you practiced Yoga? How often per week?  I have practiced yoga off and on for about 20 years. I currently practice about once a week.

What made you decide to practice Yoga?   I thought it looked interesting and could be a good workout. The instructors usually had nice muscle tone, great posture and confidence and I wanted all of those.

What do you like about practicing Yoga at National Harbor?  I like being outdoors and having a large venue so we don’t get in each other’s way. The music is a wonderful addition and the view of the water is soothing.

What is your favorite Yoga pose and why is it your favorite?  I have 2 favorite poses – chair and warrior 1. I love how powerful my legs feel in both poses. Happy baby is another favorite as it makes my hips and lower back feel so good. I usually just want to laugh when I’m in it because I think of a tiny baby grabbing its feet and giggling.

Describe how Yoga has enhanced or changed your life.  Yoga has improved my muscular strength and flexibility. Having degenerative disc disease, I used to have a lot of back pain, but yoga has taken most of that away. It has also given me confidence and peace. If I’m having a stressful day, after my practice the stress is gone and my mind is clear. I’ve learned to be more open and non-judgmental.

How long have you practiced Yoga? How often per week?  On and off for about 5 years. At my peak, twice a week.

What made you decide to practice Yoga?  To relax! I am on the go a lot and was not paying attention to my body. I started feeling really tight and getting a lot of little aches and pains that I did not want to use over the counter meds to “fix”.

What do you like about practicing Yoga at National Harbor?  The view! It’s a beautiful space and great atmosphere. 

What is your favorite Yoga pose and why is it your favorite?  I enjoy the Sun Salutations. I like the flow of the movements and using my breath.

Describe how Yoga has enhanced or changed your life.   As a dancer and dance teacher, as well as working a full time sedentary job, I’m always on the go! Yoga gives me the opportunity to turn my mind off and check in with my body. It has helped with my anxiety and gotten me to focus on being in the moment!
